Campaign Green up in Biotechnical school Maribor, Slovenia - birch tree

Hello! In addition to the lime tree, the students also observed and measured a birch tree on the school estate. (Maribor: 46.568283, 15.635109, Elevation 279 m).
Birch have been observed since February 11th. They completed the measurement on May 12th.
Leaf length 2025: Leaf 1 - 70, Leaf 2 - 65 mm, Leaf 3 - 73 mm, Leaf 4 - 70.
Leaf length 2024: Leaf 1 – 62, Leaf 2 – 63, Leaf 3 – 62, Leaf 4 – 59.

In 2024, the average temperature during the observation period was 12.4 °C, and 299,8 mm of precipitation fell during this time, while in 2025 the average temperature was only 9.4 °C, and 177 mm of precipitation fell. Despite much lower temperatures and less precipitation, the measured leaves are on average 8 mm longer this year. This may be the plant's response to the cloudier weather in spring. One possibility is that the birch compensated for less light energy by developing larger leaves and consequently capturing more light.
