Hi! Our 2025 Autumn Phenology Campaign has come to the end, as all our observed trees have lost their leaves. We'd like to share results with you. Teachers and students of the Middle School L. Da Vinci in Marcallo want to thank you all, for all the wonderful activities proposed in the European Phenology Campaigns. We thank very much the Europe and Eurasia Regional Country Coordinators for the opportunity to know so many other schools in Europe and to share data. Hi! Students enjoyed very much observing green down in our schoolgarden, and now they're analyzing collected data and comparing them with the previous years.. But they had some fun, too! Hi, everyone!
In Marcallo autumn is showing its best colors, as temperature and solar radiation are slowly decreasing. We've finished our green down observations for most of our observed tree, except for a birch.
Maximum air temperature are below 10°C and minimum temperature is nearby 0°C; the weather has been rather dry, we had only some moderate rainy days (November 15-17th and 20-21st).

Hello everyone! Students of the Middle School in Marcallo are going on
observing green down of different trees in the schoolgarde. Leaves '
colors are changing, as well as the weather conditions. Autumn has come,
air temperature has dropped down slowly, with alternating rainy and
sunny days. Here are our last observations on October 21st. BIRCH

We had some rainy days this week (total weekly rainfall 35 mm), with

Hello! Students of the Middle School in Marcallo are observing different
trees in the school garden: birches, maples, mulberry, cherry and hazel.
At the end of summer (Mid-September) our trees looked suffering, with
some dry branches and, in one case, with no leaves at all. We think it
depends on the extremely hot temperatures registered in August and the
widespread infestation by parasitic insects (Hyphantria cunea). Air
temperature was high until Mid September (average 21-22 degrees
Celsius); last week we recorded a huge amount of rainfall and a relevant
drop in minimum temperature (average 14-15 degrees Celsius). Here are

Our leaves have stopped growing! Today it's sunny, after some rainy days. Air temperature at 13:00 is 21°C, humidity 58%; cloud cover is < 25%, with isolated cumuls clouds.

leaves on our observed trees have stopped growing. Air temperature is getting warmer and warmer (minimum 12-14°C; maximum 21-22°C), with fairly regular rainfall.

We're still observing our trees and collecting weather data. Last week has been very warm, with summer-like conditions (on May 1st-2nd the maximum air temperature was 28-29°C and minimum air temperature was 13-15°C). Leaves of our observed trees have slowed down their growth.

After budburst we've started to measure leaves' lenght. Evey yaer it's wonderful to observe inflorescence sprouting out and leaves appearing!

On March 27th, 2025, the weather was sunny, temperature 18°C, humidity 47%, light wind blowing from south, high clouds in the sky (cloud cover: broken).

Spring has come and we've just observed budburst on our trees!
Recently the weather has been sunny, with average temperature of 11-12°C; we had moderate precipitation the previous week and the soil is still muddy in our schoolgarden.
Here is the timing of budburst of our observed species (photos refer to their budburst day).

Birch is awakening more slowly and later than last year, while the timing of budburst is similar to 2023.

Students of 2^A class have just begun to look at buds on their trees. They’ve selected four buds on the same branches observed in the last Autumn green down.
On March 4th the weather was sunny and warm; air temperature at noon was 15 degrees Celsius, air humidity 52% and a light wind was blowing.

We’ve starter green up observation on February 19th, looking at buds of the hazel tree and the maple tree located in our school garden.
We selected four buds on the same branch observed in 2024 Autumn green down.

All four leaves have fallen down. Our last observation was on November 18th (leaf n.3: 2.5Y 8/12)

Hi!
On the last decade of November our observed trees wore their best suit and our schoolgarden appeared very beautiful, with yellow, orange and red colors everywhere!

CURLY MAPLE (Acer platanoides)
On November 25th the weather was cloudy (overcast). air temperature at 13:30 was 7°C. Canopy was intense yellow in color, with brilliant red leaves on the top and on the edges.

we’re going on in obderving our trees (hazel and maple), that look still overall green and rather full of leaves.

All four leaves are still similar to 5GY 3/2 color, bur other inner leaves on the same branch are lighter green.

our trees have still green leaves. The weather has been warm and sunny last week (maximum temperature about 20 degrees Celsius), while since November 4th air temperature is colder and it’s foggy (Air temperature at solar noon is about 10 degrees).
