The weather here in Ireland is very sunny and dry. The plants and pollinators are happy so far but the farmers and gardeners are worried about water shortages and hose pipe restrictions have been put in place.

Hi Josephine,
I think I've seen that leaf growing in Ireland (or perhaps something similar). I don't know too much about trees but those two big leaves could be the dominant ones and grow bigger faster. Irish species have apical buds that dominate their growth upwards but great photos in any case.

Hello,
Great to see all these fabulous pictures of trees from around the world. Here's the Cherry and Pear tree from outside Dublin, Ireland on Measurement Day #2. Air and soil temperatures starting to warm up and more growth soon. The Cherry Prunus avium is an unpruned tree and still has an untouched crown and soon to display all those beautiful blossoms. The Pear Pyrus communis is heavily pruned annually due to the planting location inside the garden walls but the branch selected shows the bud growth although the amount of carbon stored might not be same as an unpruned tree. I don't know too much about that but we're on holidays now in Ireland for the next two weeks and with on-line lessons paused there's plenty of time to try to learn more about the tree protocols.

Wowzer, there is good growth on those Birch leaves, a good-looking tree with beautiful form. It's very strange not being in school but great for me to have time to do some observations and get to know how to do them properly before the students learn whenever we get back.

Budburst about to begin in Ukraine. It's just about to start here in Ireland too, seems later this year but it was much more like spring today and saw 2 Queen Bees Bombus terrestris on the wing for the first time this year. Spring is about to start.

Hello again,
Great to hear from people around the world right now in these troubling times. Our school is closed and we can't go near the building for the moment so I thought I could practice with this Prunus avium (Cherry Blossom) out the front of the house. I think the back garden Quercus petraea (Sessile Oak) uploaded in the previous thread is too heavily pruned annually to be suitable for this study!?

Hello,Schools are closed for the next two weeks. I though I could set up a site in the backgarden with a sessile Oak Quercus robur but am wondering if okay to use this tree as it has to be pruned each year to keep it contained for an urban back garden?
