Hello everyone! Unfortunately, lately, we are experiencing very unstable weather and due to very strong winds currently hitting our islands, we have lost all of our leaves The current temperature on the day measured 25.1 degrees Celsius.

Hello everyone! Our fig tree has surely woken up and is blooming beautifully! Leaf 1 is now measuring 180mm. The air temperature on the day measured 22.3 degrees Celsius.

What a surprise!

Hello everyone! We want to share an interesting fact about our fig tree. While observing the tree we noticed that instead of a leaf, a fruit was growing.

We couldn't measure it but we were looking forward to see it grow and hopefully taste it

Budburst at St Francis School

Our fig tree made budburst on the 23rd of March , 2023. We were very excited to notice the waking up of our tree. The air temperature on the day measured 19.4 degrees Celsius.

Our fig tree is getting nicer every day. Here are the measurements and some photos of our fig tree at St Francis Primary School Victoria Gozo.

Leaf 1: 16.1cm
Leaf 2: 9.9cm
Leaf 3: 11.1cm
Leaf 4: 14cm

The temperature was 18.1 C.

Spring 2022 - St Francis Primary Victoria

Today we observed our fig tree again. the leaves are getting bigger every day. Leaf 1 is 7.2cm, leaf 2 is 1.5cm, leaf 3 is 0.5cm and leaf 4 is 3cm. the weather is sunny and the air temperature is 16.2C.

European Phenology Campaign - Spring 2022

Hello, this is Christian, the Globe teacher at St Francis Primary school Victoria Gozo, Malta. Our students will be observing again the Fig Tree ‘Ficus Carica’. We already observed this tree twice during the Autumn and once in spring last year.
We started taking the measurements and observing this tree on the 17th of February. The Tree is located at the following coordinates: altitude 36.0430 and longitude 14.2441. The weather was dry and sunny, and the temperature was 16C. The 1st leaf is already 4.5 and the 2nd, 3rd,4th are in the bursting process.
Photos are attached with this post showing the tree and the students enjoying measuring and observing the tree.

Hi everyone,

Today the weather is dry an the temperature is 17.1 C.

Leaf 1 is mostly 5GY 4/8 but it is turning to 7.5YR 3/4 and the little bit 2.5Y 8/12.
Leaf 2 is mostly 5GY 3/2 but it is turning to 5R 3/4 and a little bit 2.5Y 8/6.
Leaf 3 is mostly 5GY 4/8 but it is turning to 5R 3/4.
Leaf 3 is mostly 5GY 3/2 but it is turning to 2.5R 4/4 but a little bit 2.5Y 8/12.

All the leaves on our Fig tree at St Francis Primary School Victoria Gozo are mostly 5GY 3/2 but they are turning to 2.5R 4/4. The weather is dry (29/11/21) and the temperature was 15.4C.

Hello everyone. I am the GLOBE teacher at St Francis Primary School, Victoria, Gozo Malta. This year we are again observing our fig tree as part of the Autumn Green down campaign. Attached you can see the photos of the fig tree that we are observing. At the moment the 4 leaves that we are observing have the same colour scheme being 5G/Y 3/2. However, the edges are gradually turning brown.

Hello Everyone,

Although some of the leaves are turning brown, we might have a dozen figs. This is excellent keeping in mind that the tree is still quite small and It is our first time observing this fig tree.

Our fig tree is growing very fast. The following are the measurements of today.:
Leaf 1 110mm
Leaf 2 175mm
Leaf 3 168mm
Leaf 4 Lost

Although we lost 1 leaf the tree is growing much more leaves as you can see from the photos.

Hello everyone,

Our tree is still growing and we are still observing the tree from home with the assistance and dedication of our Head of School. The measurements to date are:
Leaf 1: 103mm
Leaf 2: 169mm
Leaf 3: 161mm
Leaf 4: unfortunately we lost the 4th leaf but we have more new leaves growing.

Hello everone,

We measure and observe the leaves twice a week but we check the trees everyday since we have other plants growing in our school, which we care for and water regularly. Unfortunately, schools were closed down, and so the 12th March was our last day at school. However we still managed to observe the trees since Sr Francesca, the head of school is continually giving us updates on the trees. The head of School measures the leaves, photographs the tree and the information is then forwarded to us to follow the growth of the tree.The GLOBE teacher is still uploading the measurements of the leaves twice a week, so we can still continue working on this project successfully. And although we cannot go to school we are still observing our lovely tree with the
aid of the twice-weekly photos we are being sent, and we are pleased to note that the tree is flourishing nicely.

Our Fig tree at our school is growing by the hour. From a small mearument now all leaves are growing a lot. On the 3rd of April the leaves ranged between 10mm to 180mm.
