GLOBE Schools Team Up with the Smithsonian Institute to Study Effects of Climate Change
Our Lady of the Lake University, Crestview Elementary, and Carnahan Elementary are collaborating with local city government and the river authority to conduct GLOBE protocols measurements and report on atmospheric and land cover observations as part of a long-term study with the Smithsonian Institute's Tree Banding Project. Formally named "SHOUT," the tree-banding project is an educational outreach program that will collect the reported data over the next three to four years.

Ohio Students Explore Antarctic Climate Change through Local Atmosphere Study
Major climate changes are occurring at exceeding rates in the Antarctic. Ice shelves are breaking up and temperatures have increased within the last 50 years. Many are unaware of these Antarctic climate changes and not many resources are provided to educate the general public. Dr. Ryan L. Fogt, Assistant Professor of Geography-Meteorology at Ohio University and Director of the Scalia Laboratory for Atmospheric Analysis, oversees a GLOBE project that aims to educate 7th and 8th grade Earth Science classes in Southeastern Ohio about the Antarctic climate changes.

West Virginia Students Present Soil Research at 2012 NSTA Conference
Science students, teachers, and administrators from across the U.S. and 41 other countries met in Indianapolis, Indiana, for the annual National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) conference on 29 March – 1 April 2012. Among those attending were Caleb and Tanner, two students from Poca High School in West Virginia who were invited to present their GLOBE Soil Research Project at one of the world's largest organizations dedicated to science education. The students were chosen by their chemistry teacher Mrs. Maureen Miller because of their interest in science, dedication to their studies, and willingness and excitement to speak to a large group.

GLOBE CloudSat Mission Involves Students in Climate Research
CloudSat, a joint National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and Canadian Space Agency (CSA) satellite, is providing the first global survey of cloud profiles and cloud physical properties, with seasonal and geographical variations, needed to evaluate the way clouds are parameterized in global models and contributing to improved predictions of weather, climate and the cloud-climate feedback problem.

From Eyesore to Eden: New York City GLOBE Schools Monitor Historic Conversion of Landfills to Parkland
For decades, garbage trucks deposited New York City's waste in two large landfills adjacent to Jamaica Bay on the south shore of Brooklyn and Queens just minutes from John F. Kennedy International Airport. The combined 400-acre Pennsylvania Avenue/Fountain Avenue landfill site was a local eyesore, to say nothing of its effects on the nose and throat, and requited Superfund cleanup that began in the late 1980s. Today, years of renovation work by the New York City (NYC) Department of Environmental Protection and New York State (NYS) Department of Environmental Conservation are nearing the goal of converting these former environmental disasters to a remarkable park that will be turned over to the National Park Service, Gateway National Recreation Area, for the enjoyment of all New Yorkers.

Denver/Ulanbataar Sister Cities School Pairing Project Enhanced with GLOBE
The Denver / Ulanbataar Sister Cities school collaboration project was begun in 2005 to establish an educational and cultural exchange between high school students in Colorado and Mongolia. The organization paired Denver Center for International Studies in Denver and Tuba City Boarding School in Tuba City, Arizona, with Ireedui Tsogtsolbor (Future Complex) in Ulanbataar and Erdmiin Dalai Tsogtsolbor (Ocean Knowledge Complex) in Mandalgovi, Mongolia. Each of the four schools established a student club to learn about the other's culture, history and geography, and focused on establishing communication between the schools so that students could interact online.

Green Down of a Tree in Iowa
At the MFL Mar-Mac Elementary School in Monona, Iowa, USA, Crystal Thurn's 3rd grade class spent three months last year studying seasonal change by doing a research project that took them outside their classroom on beautiful crisp days last Autumn. The project required that the students closely observe one maple tree in the schoolyard to see what factors might affect the tree as it changed color and dropped its leaves.
