GLOBE and Art
Science and art have a definite connection — imagine studying prehistoric creatures without being able to see drawings or sketches; or studying contrails in an area that experiences no flyovers by jets; or studying the climate of Polar Regions from the desert with only text. These examples would be reality without the inclusion of art, whether in the form of drawings, paintings, sketches, and photographs.

GLOBE Students and Teachers Explore How to Volunteer for Change
Over 70 GLOBE students and 50 teachers took part in the Volunteers for Change Workshop held at the Shaikh Khalifa Institute for Technology in March 2006. The three-day workshop proved to be a very rewarding experience for all involved and included lectures in English and Arabic on voluntary work, development of community service projects, how to organize volunteers, and a variety of activities and discussions.

Students in Illinois Find Exciting Ways to Share GLOBE with Their Community
For the community of Lisle Illinois, the Morton Arboretum is "a place for trees, a place for people, and a place for fun." In late 2005, GLOBE teacher Maureen Nolan from Steeple Run School, decided it was a perfect place for GLOBE too. So Maureen loaned the arboretum some extra equipment, and with the help of Illinois GLOBE Training Coordinator Greg Lopatka, installed it into the arboretum's weather station in November.

Norwegian GLOBE School Passes its 100,000th Measurement Mark!
In the seven years since the Vang barne-og ungdomsskule (K-10) in Valdres, Norway, started the GLOBE Program, they have amassed over 100,000 measurement points. On 30 May the school celebrated the momentous occasion with a big party, during which seven students together pushed the button to enter the 100,000th measurement. With enthusiasm and pride, they watched a special video message from GLOBE acting Director Ed Geary congratulating them on their accomplishments.

Model School: Pennsylvania School Integrates GLOBE Protocols into Existing Science Curriculum
When High School science teacher Todd Toth returned from a weeklong GLOBE training back in April of 1995, he got a pleasant surprise: His building principal suggested he develop a new science elective based on what he had learned. Over the next few years, Todd developed what is now the "Environmental Research" course, which is sponsored by California University of Pennsylvania as an equivalent to their freshman level earth science course.

Macedonia and Croatia Build Strong Bonds through GLOBE
Two recent GLOBE Workshops held in Berova and Skopje, Republic of Macedonia in June and November, 2005, might have resembled any number of other GLOBE workshops in any other part of the world if not for one crucial detail. Namely, these workshops illustrated the cooperation, unselfish assistance, and exchange of experience that is typical of the relationship between Macedonia and Croatia.
