The 7th Annual Regional Meeting and International Training Workshop in Doha, Qatar
The Near East and North Africa Regional Meeting and International Training event took place on 17-23 February 2008, in the city of Doha, Qatar. GLOBE Students in France and the U.S. Expand Collaborative Activities
The ongoing relationship between GLOBE teachers Kathy Rome, from Bison, Kansas, USA, and Mehdi Rajade and Virginie Godechoul, GLOBE teachers from Andernos-Les-Bains, France, has continued to flourish. After initially meeting via a Web conference May 2007, they finally met face-to-face at the AIM/CloudSat satellite workshop that took place in Alaska in June 2007. Also in attendance at the workshop were GLOBE U.S. Partners Dr. Paul Adams, a Kansas Fort Hays State University professor and CALIPSO educational outreach instructor, Dr. Dianne Robinson, atmospheric science professor at Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia, and Yves Darbarie, GLOBE teacher from Bordeaux, France  >>

GLOBE Across the Curriculum in Chile!
In order to assist in Chile's implementation of the GLOBE Program, GLOBE Chile has aligned the GLOBE Program with national education standards to help teachers incorporate GLOBE into several areas of study. The current Chilean educational policy continuously considers environmental education and management as a cross-curricular objective for Chilean education (Decreto Supremo de Educación Nº 220 de Chile).  >>

Former GLOBE Student Now a GLOBE Teacher in Croatia
For one new GLOBE teacher attending the recent European Regional Train the Trainer Workshop, Martina Pulic, this was not her first experience with GLOBE. Martina attended high school (Gimnazija I Strukovna Skola Jurja Dobrile) in Pazin, Croatia, where her biology teacher introduced her to GLOBE protocols. After high school she was accepted to the Faculty of Science at Zagreb University and graduated in 2007 with a degree in biology. In September 2007, she returned to her high school, this time as a biology teacher, and her principal recommended her to be the GLOBE school coordinator.  >>

GLOBE Germany 2007 School of the Year
Gymnasium Schloß Neuhaus in Paderborn was awarded the prize as GLOBE Germany School of 2007. This honor was bestowed on students and headmaster of the school on 17 November in Bad Hersfeld during the yearly GLOBE Conference. The Award was presented by Professor Seybold, who founded the first GLOBE groups in Germany and started the first evaluation for GLOBE.  >>

NSTA Conference in Denver Unites GLOBE Partners, Trainers, Teachers and Scientists in the Region
The 2007 Western Regional National Science Teachers Association (NSTA) Conference in Denver, Colorado, 8 - 10 November 2007, was well attended by the GLOBE community. The GLOBE Program Office booth was visited by an estimated 600 to 800 teachers each day. GLOBE Program Office (GPO) staff, including all members of the GLOBE Help Desk and Colorado GLOBE Partner Ms. Deanna TeBockhorst were on hand to share information about GLOBE.  >>

GLOBE Students from Alaska and Washington DC Share Environmental Concerns
The science department of the Model Secondary School for the Deaf in Washington D.C. welcomed nine middle school students and their teachers from Anvil City Science Academy (ACSA) in Nome, Alaska on 3 May 2007. The ACSA students are involved in the GLOBE Program and GLOBE phenology studies, as are many MSSD Earth System Science (ESS) students. Students from both schools met to exchange cultural and environmental information about their two localities.  >>

GLOBE Europe Regional Train-the-Trainer Workshop
A European Regional Train-the-Trainer Workshop was held in Dubrovnik, Croatia, from 2 –7 November 2007. The event engaged a broad international reach, with 12 Trainers and 43 participants coming from 24 countries: Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Israel, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Norway, Poland, Republic of Macedonia, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, and the United States.  >>

Nigeria's Ondo State Hosts Third GLOBE Workshop
The third GLOBE workshop in Nigeria took place on 17-20 December 2007 at the Sunshine State e-Technology Center in Akure, Ondo State. This training was the second in a series of professional development events convened to certify at least two GLOBE teachers at each of Ondo State's 250 secondary schools and provide them with a complete set of equipment to measure GPS, atmosphere, soil, hydrology and land cover protocols in support of the regions student research activities. The Governor of Ondo State, His Excellency Dr. Olusegun Agagu, has sponsored this long-term initiative which includes a sustained professional development program for teachers.  >>

Sri Lankan GLOBE Club Develops Tools for Outreach and Collaboration
The official Web site of the GLOBE Club of Maliyadeva College in Kurunegala, Sri Lanka, was ceremoniously launched 5 December 2007 by Mr. R.M.M. Rathnayake, the Principal of the College. With guidance from the Ministry of Education and other GLOBE Clubs in Sri Lanka, the Maliyadeva GLOBE Club is the first to launch a Web site dedicated to furthering information about GLOBE activities in Sri Lanka.  >>
