GLOBE Side Navigation

Data Entry Range Checks

The data gathered from GLOBE protocols should generally be within the ranges described below.

Make sure all equipment is properly calibrated. If measurements fall outside the ranges listed below, check all equipment for possible instrumental contaminants.

The information below is organized by protocol and data type.

General Notes

  • Required: *
  • Primary keys in database: #
  • Number formats:  xxx or xxx.x
  • Varchar2 format: 16 alphanumeric characters

  • SchoolID, Site ID, Date Measured, Hour Measured are recorded for each entry.
  • At least one value per data entry page must be entered.
  • For numeric entries, only numbers are allowed.
  • A Study Site Location must be chosen for each data entry.
  • If they enter more digits after the decimal point than the database allows, it is rounded off.

Other Checks

  • Max/Mins have to be reported within the solar noon window (solar noon + or - 1 hr. 15 min.).
  • Max >= Current >= Min (Max and Min can be equal).
  • If no T current exists for yesterday, then no T max will be accepted for today.
  • If no T current exists for yesterday, then no T min will be accepted for today.
  • If T is greater or less than the record for the U.S. States, then an alert is displayed on the verification page.

Record the data for each of the three sets of Infiltration measurements. This experiment is performed at either a Soil Moisture or Soil Characterization Study Site.

Other Checks

  • Each time entry must be greater than the previous entry.
  • The difference between the final End Time and the first Start Time must be under 4 hours.
  • Only three samples of nine measurements allowed per day per study site.
