Overview

The GLOBE Watershed Dynamics Project has developed two educational modules, targeted at middle and high school earth and environmental science classes. The first module, Water Availability, guides students through exploring the following questions: "Where does precipitation come from?" and "Where does it go?" while the second module, Human Impact on the Watershed, guides students through an investigation of land cover and streamgage data from two different years to analyze changes over time. Students also learn how to interpret patterns in hydrographs created from real streamgage data. Each module utilizes its own customized version of FieldScope GIS, a free, web-based GIS tool designed to be accessible to secondary students.

These modules and the activities they contain have been developed in order to provide a scaffolded educational experience for students, each activity building on previous activities. However, activities can also be used in stand-alone fashion, classroomdepending on the preferences of individual teachers.
