The AquaRenew Initiative investigated the chemical and physical health of water sources in Ekorinim, Calabar, through a student-led "Data Detective" approach. Using NASA GLOBE Hydrology protocols, we analyzed three distinct water types: River Cross (surface water), local streams, and community boreholes (groundwater). Between January 14 and 16, 2026, we collected data on pH, Temperature, Electrical Conductivity (EC), Dissolved Oxygen (DO), and Turbidity. Our findings revealed that while groundwater is physically clear and chemically stable (Turbidity < 1.3 NTU), surface water bodies exhibit significant ecological stress, marked by extreme DO fluctuations (Range: 64.00) and elevated EC. This study culminated in the demonstration of a low-cost AquaRenew purification system to bridge the gap between community needs and environmental reality.
