Acer negundo in Virovitica
Students and GLOBE leaders at Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić Elementary School in Virovitica continued the survey of invasive property applying GLOBE protocols for the exploration of the land cover. They wanted to establish differences in the number of invasive genus, time and method of entry on green areas in Daruvar and Virovitica and their significance in the cities. They collaborated with students and GLOBE leaders from the Technical School in Daruvar. They wanted to establish differences in the number of invasive genera, time and method of entry on green areas in Daruvar and Virovitica and their significance in the cities. Five of them were invasive foreign trees and shrubs, and four are represented in both cities. There are more foreign trees of Acacia in Virovitica than in Daruvar because they are planted there in the woodlands along the roads as the part of the city plan. Analysis of the input and distribution of these five genera indicates that they do not have the tendency to spread as an invasive plant even though they occupy space indigenous to its importance for the biodiversity of the area.
