Get Started Overview
GLOBE welcomes citizen scientists, educators, students, and STEM professionals to take part in our dynamic Earth science research missions and educational campaigns.
Begin an Earth science adventure by becoming a member, completing in-person and/or eTraining, researching the data, using the GLOBE Observer app, or finding a GLOBE event near you.
Learn more about our membership and training opportunities today by clicking on the bar that best describes you.
Teachers who complete GLOBE training and implement GLOBE protocols in their classroom report positive changes in their students attitudes towards science and environmental stewardship.
To get started, please create a GLOBE teacher account today.
Complete training by at least one of the methods below.
Even if you haven’t completed training, GLOBE’s website is home to a wealth of resources for K-12 students, including a Teacher’s Guide, tried and tested classroom activities, a description of GLOBE’s research protocols, and Elementary GLOBE, which is a series of age-appropriate storybooks that help young ones understand Earth Science topics.
If you find yourself creating excuses to be outside or to learn more about the natural world, look no further! Citizen science is a fun way to participate in meaningful studies of Earth’s Spheres (atmosphere, biosphere, hydrosphere, pedosphere (soil)).
GLOBE Observer is an international network of citizen scientists and scientists working together to learn more about our shared environment and changing climate. To participate, just download the GLOBE Observer app and submit regular observations. You can also create your GLOBE Observer account to access the website and app.
GLOBE invites science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) professionals at any stage in their career (undergraduate, graduate, postdoctoral, early/late career) to join the GLOBE International STEM Network (GISN) or to engage GLOBE’s publicly sourced Earth Science database.
Check out our list of academic publications who were inspired by GLOBE data or research protocols.
U.S. partners and country coordinators are invested in creating opportunities for students and citizens to actively participate in Earth science research.
Our partners are typically long-term members of GLOBE, who have completed protocol training and have experience implementing GLOBE protocols in schools or organizations.
U.S. partners and country coordinators recruit GLOBE schools, secure funding to support GLOBE activities, participate in GLOBE events and communication, offer training or mentoring opportunities for interested educators or citizen scientists, and track student research efforts.
Information for Countries
Countries interested in contributing Earth science data to GLOBE have signed a bilateral agreement with the U.S. government. Country coordinators are nominated by their government to do the important work of implementing GLOBE protocols in schools and organizations.
If you are interested in becoming a GLOBE country coordinator, please contact our Community Support Team (help desk) by filling out this form.
Information for the U.S.
In the U.S., academic, nonprofit or governmental organizations, whose priorities or mission align with GLOBE are invited to become U.S. partners. In addition, businesses and organizations whose corporate mission is to invest in successful educational outcomes of students and the community at large are also welcome to become U.S. GLOBE partners. Please view our vision and mission statement to see if your organization’s mission is aligned with GLOBE.
Each U.S. partner must have a formal affiliation with an institution of higher education, a school district, a State Department of Education, or a recognized informal education organization (501c3) such as STEM learning centers, museums, and foundations, leading to sustainable implementation of GLOBE in their community. If you participated in GLOBE as a student, we encourage you to register to become a member of GLOBE. GLOBE Alumni can assist with local implementation of GLOBE research protocols in schools and their communities. Alumni work directly with the GLOBE country coordinator in their country or U.S. Partners in their state, as well as with teachers, students, and scientists who want to collaborate with schools in their local area. Alumni are also encouraged to download the GLOBE Observer App to continue their submission of data into the system.

GLOBE Trained Teacher can create Student Accounts to be used by their student for data entry. Student account is limited to data entry. The student account however have access to the data entry and sites their teacher has access to.
Teachers can create up to 50 student accounts for their students. These accounts look like GLOBE email addresses and will allow your students to interact with GLOBE data entry, GLOBE Observer and the GLOBE website. Please remember the following rules concerning student accounts:
- You are limited to 50 student accounts per teacher per school.
- Please do not use the student name in the account.
- Rather than setup one account per student, it may be preferable to setup one account per class period (for example biology_period1).
- The student will not be able to send or receive email from this account.
- The student can login to GLOBE, post to forums, friend other GLOBE members, or comment on blogs with this account.
- All student accounts will have their teacher as a friend by default. Students can also upload images to the school's image gallery, but they cannot change any information on the school's page.
- The student can use either the GLOBE Data Entry app, or GLOBE Observer with this account, and all data entered will be associated with your teacher account and school.
- Teachers can change the password, edit or delete a student account at any time.
- Remember - Anyone with this account can delete or edit your measurement data so protect the account information accordingly. Change passwords as needed to insure only authorized users can use the account.
