GLOBE Star of Croatia
In April 1998, GLOBE students in Croatia gathered in Zagreb to share their research with one another and to report on their GLOBE activities to their nation's President. Three students and a teacher from each of Croatia's 37 active GLOBE schools participated in the special event.  >>

Greek Teachers Tour The Netherlands
After visiting Germany, the Greek teachers crossed the border to the Netherlands, where they were introduced to the Dutch GLOBE Program by Country Coordinator Martin Bosch. The two groups sang a song composed in Holland, "GLOBE Homepage, Here We Come!" The Greek participants were inspired to begin composing their own GLOBE tune!  >>

President of Iceland Visits GLOBE Headquarters
The GLOBE Program in Washington was honored to have the President of Iceland, Olafur Ragnar Grimsson and his wife visit on July 22, 1997. The President was briefed on the status of GLOBE and enjoyed a demonstration of the GLOBE Student Data Server by GLOBE Director Tom Pyke.  >>

On Sunday, October 26, twenty GLOBE teachers from Greece arrived in Koeln City, Germany accompanied by their support team from the University of Athens: Nektaria Adaktilou, Nektarios Chrysoulakis, and Athanasios Andritsos.  >>

Lowrey Elementary School, Tahlequah, OK, United States
Dedication and persistency have enabled GLOBE students at Lowrey Elementary School in Tahlequah, Oklahoma to record atmospheric data just about every day of the week for three years! Students in GLOBE teacher Jeff Lawrence's eighth grade science classes take turns checking measurements on weekends and holidays.  >>

With support from parents and local businesses, fifth grade students at Pattison Elementary are successfully implementing GLOBE throughout their school. GLOBE Stars in the Czech Republic
Over 3,000 children and adults gathered in the Czech Republic to celebrate Earth Day 1998 by taking GLOBE measurements. TEREZA, the non-governmental organization that administers the country's GLOBE Program, organized the celebration in the Prokop Nature Valley of Prague.  >>

At Rural Hall Elementary School in Rural Hall, NC, kids are begging GLOBE teacher Linda McDermon to make and report GLOBE measurements. "The kids in computer club and the kids who live close by just love coming in the summer and doing their GLOBE measurements," McDermon said. "Kids drop by my house or we'll meet at the pond. And they beg to have extra time to do the different protocols."  >>

Koninklijk Atheneum Tienen, Tienen, Belgium
Congratulations to GLOBE Students Cindy Demeulemeester, Olivier Maurice, and Joris Lochy -- winners in the Dirk Frimout Contest, a yearly science competition in Belgium for pupils in the last year of high school. The students presented a 300 page report discussing their research in atmosphere, hydrology, land cover, and soils and the relationship between all of these areas of study.  >>
