Juan Diego Calvo-Perez Rodo

Those of you who attended the 14th Annual GLOBE Conference and Workshop in Calgary will recognize Juan Diego Calvo-Pérez Rodó, GLOBE Alumni from Peru, the youngest and most impassioned speaker at the event in Canada. Just 18 years old, Juan Diego is in his second year of biology studies at La Molina National Agrarian University, Peru's premier institution for study in the fields of agricultural and forestry sciences, located in Lima. Juan Diego, whose interests span international boundaries as a result of his participation in GLOBE, is studying French and Italian as well.

Juan Diego first became involvled with GLOBE two years ago, and has already become the regional GLOBE Alumni representative for the Latin America+Caribbean (LAC) Region. Currently he is working on increasing participation of GLOBE Alumni in LAC, and internationally on the development of GS-PALS, a networking device to facilitate the ability of GLOBE Alumni around the world to remain involved in GLOBE activities.

Writes Juan Diego, "GLOBE is a bond and a feeling, a great friend and a guide, a beautiful demonstration of what we are capable of doing and a reminder of what more can be done. There is still an ocean of activities to run, and that's where we have to put our minds and hearts; that's where our guiding flag waves. There is our future and we have to go for it!" With enthusiasm like this, there is no doubt that Juan Diego will inspire more GLOBE Alumni to play a significant role in GLOBE activities for years to come. His message is the reminder that participation in GLOBE can become a lifetime commitment and that exposure to GLOBE can impact one's entire life.
