The  GLOBE  Mission Mosquito   campaign was delighted to have 23 IVSS projects submitted that used the Mosquito Habitat Mapper tool in their research. These projects came from students in elementary school through graduate students in college and were submitted from 15 different countries.  You can view an interactive map of these projects here .  During the GLOBE Mission Mosquito Education webinar, we invited three of these students and their teachers to share their projects and some "Best Practices" with us. You can view the archived webinar here . ...

I am pleased to announce that the Institute for Earth Observation’s at Palmyra Cove’s Innovation Lab is developing a virtual reality experience called Lunar Learning Expeditions that will allow visitors to explore the lunar surface. The first release models the Apollo 11 moon landing site where visitors can perform some of the early experiments as part of the Early Apollo Scientific Experiments Package (EASEP). Within virtual reality, visitors will experience a view from inside a space suit as they perform mission tasks. In-game spectator cameras will allow visitors who are waiting in line...

This month, the GLOBE Mission Mosquito team is shining our " Spotlight " on the work that Diouf Birane and his students are doing in Senegal.   Birane Diouf and his students at the Lycee Seydina Limamoulaye are proud members of GLOBE’s “ Zika Education and Prevention Project .”  In some areas in West Africa, certain insects carry and spread diseases like African trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness), chikungunya, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, dengue fever, leishmaniasis, lymphatic filariasis, malaria, onchocerciasis, Rift Valley fever, West Nile virus,...

The 2019 GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium important dates and rubrics are now available! The GLOBE Clouds team at NASA Langley Research Center would love to see you use cloud observations in your research!  Do you need some ideas? Here are a few. Also, don't forget about the blog on how to come up with a good research question .  K-2nd grade: - What is the cloud type observed the most during Fall/Spring/Summer (choose one or a different period of time)? - Which cloud type, nimbostratus or cumulonimbus, produces the most...

I just updated HoloGLOBE to v1.0.2. For those of you new to this app, HoloGLOBE brings NASA and NOAA visualizations of the Earth to the palm of your hand through augmented reality (AR). You can read more about the app here: http://www.palmyracove.org/InstituteforEarthObservations/HoloGLOBE.aspx In this latest release, I have added play/pause functionality to the MyNASAData module. The MyNASAData is essentially an augmented reality version of GLOBE's Earth System Poster. In addition the new ICESat-2 module has been added. The ICESat-2 module was built by Emme Wiederhold, a student...

I am hearing more and more conversations center around "bundling," particularly when it comes to NGSS ( Next Generation Science Standards ). Sometimes, in my GLOBE world, it is a conversation around bundling the protocols together. I know that some teachers already do this when they take students outside for field investigations. In my email clean-out, I found this little gem that I thought I'd share. In 2012, the GLOBE Annual Meeting in St. Paul, Minnesota included two investigation questions for fieldwork. To answer the questions, the participants used several protocols to collect...

Bill Smith, left, along with Kris Bedka. The NASA GLOBE Clouds team is excited to share with you this recent news article about two NASA scientists that help match your observations with satellite data - Bill Smith and Kris Bedka. They, along with Louis Nguyen lead SatCORPS, at team at NASA Langley Research Center that use expertise in clouds to make better weather predictions.  Read more about their work at  https://www.nasa.gov/feature/langley/how-cloud-data-is-improving-weather-forecasts

The GLOBE Program is in a unique position to provide citizens worldwide with amazing benefits. One of the biggest benefits, I feel, it that of gaining a larger perspective. I work at Goddard Space Flight Center with the GPM (Global Precipitation Measurement) mission . This Earth-observing satellite is able to measure global precipitation and update these measurements every 30 minutes. You can see the latest data animation for the past week here . As NASA is a key sponsor of The GLOBE Program, many of us who work for NASA are able to share the unique perspectives that...
