Welcome Liberia, GLOBE’s 119th Partnering Country!

Samuel Watson, Charge d'Affairs of the U.S. Embassy and Romelle Horton, Deputy Minister for Instruction for Liberia's Ministry of Education, sign the agreement.

On 25 September 2017, Samuel Watson, Charge d’Affairs of the U.S. Embassy on behalf of the U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and Romelle Horton, Deputy Minister for Instruction for Liberia’s Ministry of Education, signed an agreement to implement The GLOBE Program in Liberia at a signing ceremony in Monrovia.

The goal of this partnership in Liberia is to encourage more students to explore and pursue studies and careers in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields. Peace Corps volunteers who teach math and science classes will pilot the program in ten schools in rural areas of Liberia to see how further implementation can benefit students across the country. They have been equipped with GLOBE starter kits provided by the U.S. Embassy’s Public Affairs Section that contain protocol guides and materials needed to instruct teachers in Alkalinity, Barometric Pressure, Biometry, Clouds, Precipitation, Temperature and Soil Temperature Protocols.

The GLOBE Implementation Office welcomes Liberia, the 119th country to participate in The GLOBE Program.
