NAAEE Conference Still On Schedule (18-21 October) After Hurricane Irma – Have You Registered for the GLOBE/Eco-schools Workshop Yet?
The passing of Hurricane Irma has not changed the fact that the 46th Annual North American Association for Environmental Education (NAAEE) Conference will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico, USA, from 18-21 October 2017! (To read an update on the conference in relation to Hurricane Irma, click here.)
On 18 October, a full-day workshop “The GLOBE Program and Eco-schools: Science and Sustainability in School Gardens” will be offered. During this interactive hands-on workshop, participants will learn about GLOBE science, Eco-schools sustainability, and NASA resources. Participants will conduct GLOBE field investigations through an exploration of a local Eco-school’s schoolyard habitat and develop an implementation action plan.
The workshop will focus on the following Disciplinary Core Ideas: Weather and climate; Humans impact on Earth systems; Interdependent relationships in ecosystems; Ecosystem dynamics, functioning, and resilience; and Biodiversity and humans, through the integration of science, sustainability, and school-gardens.
Participants will visit a San Juan Eco-school (Escuela Laboratorio CeDin) and see how students use hydroponics, outdoor gardens and water quality studies at an adjacent stream. Participants will also gain access to materials that integrate GLOBE science and Eco-schools sustainability in real-world, relevant ways for student learning.

NAAEE “Early Childhood Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence,” Highlights The GLOBE Program – Have You Read it Yet?
The NAAEE National Project for Excellence in Environmental Education developed a series of guidelines that set the standards for high-quality environmental education. Each of these publications was developed by a diverse team of professionals, and each has gone through a substantive review by thousands of professionals prior to its publication. Learn more about the project here.
The Early Childhood Environmental Education Programs: Guidelines for Excellence, is one in the series and comprises a set of recommendations for developing comprehensive early childhood environmental education programs or triggering improvements in existing ones. The GLOBE Program is highlighted in the NAAEE report, as is Elementary GLOBE. (Elementary GLOBE is designed to introduce primary, K-4, students to the study of Earth system science.)
