Join Our Data Quality Challenge 28 November - 02 December!
GLOBE is holding a Data Quality Challenge from 28 November through 02 December. Why? Because we need our community members - you - to compare the site locations associated with your account and to make sure, 100% sure, that they are correct. Data entry is about quality as much as quantity!
This challenge is for anyone who enters, or who has entered, data into the GLOBE database. The goal is to have our community members check the GPS coordinates used for all data collection sites. The majority of the coordinates defined in GLOBE's database are based on hand-entered efforts, so an occasional mistake is possible. If coordinates are incorrectly recorded they can skew the relationships being analyzed in the same way as when measurement readings are erroneously recorded. GLOBE's system has ways of avoiding false data from either being entered or displayed, but only you can ensure that the location of a site is correct. BONUS! In addition to helping ensure the accuracy of the data, everyone who has confirmed and edited their site information will get a virtual participation badge to share on their profile after the challenge period.

Is El Niño a bust? Read the latest GLOBE ENSO Student Research Campaign blog by Brian Campbell (NASA Senior Earth Science Education Specialist) and find out!
El Niño and La Niña are the warm and cool phases of a recurring climate pattern across the tropical Pacific-the El Niño-Southern Oscillation, or "ENSO" for short. The GLOBE ENSO Student Research Campaign is designed to engage students in determining where, and how much, El Niño affects local places - and to put students in contact with their local environment. In order to officially participate you must:
- Take measurements and submit data, to GLOBE, in at least two of the six campaign protocols for at least 21 days per season; AND
- Register as a member of the ENSO Student Research Campaign. (Be sure to log in to your GLOBE account to ensure you see the "join-community" link when you go to the Members Page.)
The NASA GLOBE team will award certificates to members and schools that attend at least 50 percent of the campaign webinars during the 2016-2017 school year.

New Article Published: The Benefit of The GLOBE Program for the Development of Inquiry Competence in the Czech and Slovak Contexts
Congratulations to the Czech Republic, for the recent article "The Benefit of The GLOBE Program for the Development of Inquiry Competence in the Czech and Slovak Contexts," which was published (thanks to funding from the YLACES Foundation) in the International Journal of Environmental and Science Education.
This study compares the inquiry competence of the 8th-grade students participating in GLOBE in the Czech Republic with a sample of students of the same age not participating in the program from the Slovak and Czech Republics.

Interested in other GLOBE-related publications? GLOBE has a long history of sharing impact and science findings through peer-reviewed publications on the GLOBE website. The peer-review process ensures that published articles represent the best scholarship currently available. Each article that is submitted to a peer-reviewed journal is sent to other scholars in the same field in order to get their opinion on the quality of research, the relevance to the field, and its appropriateness for inclusion in the journal. And, for those of you who may have had an article published recently (or within the last year), please send us the information: communications@globe.gov.

Register now for the next ENSO (El Nino Southern Oscillation) Student Research Campaign webinar, "Collaboration Via the ENSO Student Research Campaign." This webinar, presented on Tuesday, 15 November, at 8:00 p.m. EST (1:00 a.m. UTC), will focus on campaign collaboration, including how to find teachers to collaborate with, best practices and potential challenges for collaboration, and a discussion of how to collaborate with scientists and teachers. 2017 International Virtual Science Symposium Updates
GLOBE students: Are you ready to practice the skills you've learned through your involvement with GLOBE and apply them to real-world issues? Then the 2017 International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS) is ready for you!
The 2017 IVSS takes place online, and K-16 students from any GLOBE country may participate. Collaborating with scientists, including STEM professionals who are part of the GISN, you simply use the GLOBE data that you've entered into the database. Every project that is submitted will be hosted on the GLOBE website, and students will receive virtual badges to reward them for their work. There is no limit to the number of entries per student or per school and there is no limit to the number of students per project.

This informational webinar covers the instructions, badges, rubrics, and guidelines for the science symposium. 2017 IVSS in Need of Mentors and Judges!
The 2017 IVSS is still in need of mentors and judges! Judges can be members of the GISN, interested grad students, GLOBE alumni, or anyone with an interest in this endeavor.
If you are interested in sharing your expertise and would like to judge research projects or help mentor students, please fill out the Interest Form today! (If you would like to volunteer for both options, please check both boxes on the form.)
Students: Looking for a mentoring scientist to help with your project? Click here! There are many experienced scientists ready and waiting to help you.
