The GLOBE Urban Heat Island Effect (UHIE)-Surface Temperature IOP is On!

GLOBE students engaged in the UHIE-Surface Temperature IOP

The March Urban Heat Island Effect (UHIE)-Surface Temperature Intensive Observation Period (IOP) began on Tuesday, 01 March, and will take place throughout the month.

Formerly called the “UHIE-Surface Temperature Field Campaign,” the UHIE-Surface Temperature IOP will take place in October, December, and March. IOPs involve GLOBE students, scientists, educators, and researchers collecting and entering targeted data into the GLOBE database during specific periods of time.

The March IOP will focus on looking at the impact urbanization has on the Earth’s surface temperature, and how surface temperature changes the dynamics of the Earth’s atmosphere. As always, your participation is invaluable to this scientific and educational endeavor.
