Today is a good day to catch up on the latest GLOBE El Niño Field Campaign blogs and register for the upcoming campaign webinar!

The latest blogs include:

  • The Impact of El Nino on Landslides in California (posted by Dorian Wood Janney on 28 August)
  • Will a La Niña be any relief from these record hot temperatures? (posted by Brian Campbell on 22 August)
  • Relationship between Zika and the El Nino-La Nina article (posted by Brian Campbell on 10 August)

As part of the GLOBE El Niño Field Campaign, a suite of six GLOBE measurement protocols (including the SMAP protocol) are serving as ways to identify environmental changes affected by El Niño. Visit the El Niño Story Maps page and learn how to share your story – and see how El Niño is affecting people around the world.

Today is also a good day to register for the next webinar “El Niño Student Campaign Refresher and Update,” which will take place on 21 September at 8:00 p.m. ET (12:00 a.m. 22 September UTC). In this hour-long webinar, participants will get a refresher on this campaign, and will hear from several GLOBE teachers who have been involved with their classes from the start of the campaign. We will discuss the need for ongoing data collection and share the current state of the ENSO cycle. A NASA scientist will discuss the current state of the ENSO cycle and what it might mean for weather conditions for the remainder of this campaign.

Unable to attend all of the GLOBE El Niño Field Campaign webinars? You can link to a recording and catch up today.

Throughout the campaign, regular guest blogs from scientists about how they study El Niño and teachers doing data collection with their students are being posted. In addition, there is information on the science of El Niño, how to participate in the campaign, analysis tools, numerous resources, and engaging discussion opportunities on the webpage. Keep checking back to discover what’s new with the campaign!
