First GLOBE Online Training for Teachers in North Macedonia, Croatia and Slovenia

In celebration of Earth Day on 22 April ,and to mark the official restart of the implementation of The GLOBE Program, 159 participants from North Macedonia, Croatia, Slovenia, and Montenegro joined together on an online GLOBE training course.. Aiming to help newly joining teachers and acquainting the experienced once with the new protocols, the trainers from North Macedonia organized the training activities together with their trainer colleagues from Croatia and the GLOBE coordination office for Europe and Eurasia.

The goal of this online training was achieved and the new GLOBE teachers received proper introduction and insight to the GLOBE Program activities, whereas the more experienced teachers understand the new expectations and requirements underpinning the new protocols included under the GLOBE Program.

Naser Nuredini, the Minister of Environment and Physical Planning, opened this event by emphasizing that there is no better way to mark Earth Day, than by restarting this educational program that will allow students and youth to learn about the importance and the need to protect the environment. Mila Carovska, Minister for Education also addressed the need for educational components related to environmental protection and the US Ambassador in North Macedonia, Kate Mary Burns also spoke of the imperative for mutual efforts to tackle the environmental challenges.

The restarting of the implementation of the GLOBE Program in the North Macedonia was enabled directly through a donation of the US Embassy in North Macedonia, allowing the GLOBE coordination Office for Europe and Eurasia to plan the activities together with all stakeholder participants. This donation has also facilitated the supply of instruments, chemicals and other necessary supplies for the implementation of both the training and follow up national program activities.

We believe that the overall goal to include the GLOBE Program protocols as part of the regular national curriculum is attainable and we will continue to work with all relevant stakeholders to deliver results.

Also, we are sure that this last training event, will only open new doors for future cooperation with our GLOBE family and will continue to demonstrate the values of our shared vision to enhance and protect the environment.

The event had great media coverage through TV broadcast. Katerina Nikolovska, country coordinator in North Macedonia has been a guest on broadcast several times. Sanja Klubička, the trainer from Croatia, Bara Semeraková, representative of the GLOBE Regional Office Europe and Eurasia and Stojan Manolev was invited to answer questions about the GLOBE Program and its implementation at schools.
