GLOBE G6-12 Teachers: Join the GOES-R Education Proving Ground

The GOES-R Education Proving Ground features the design and development of lesson plans and activities for middle and high school students by science teachers working with Education and Outreach (EPO) specialists at the Cooperative Institute of Meteorological Satellite Studies (CIMSS), in close coordination NOAA scientists at the Advanced Satellite Products Branch (ASPB) stationed at CIMSS.

The goal of this program is to prepare the education community to be launch ready for new satellite imagery and improved products that will be available in the upcoming GOES-R era. Phase One of this endeavor involved updating the CIMSS Satellite Meteorology for Grades 7-12 course. Phase Two of the proving ground involved recruiting teams of two teachers from three different states to develop GOES-R related lesson plans for middle and high school students.

Scientists from ASPB have also teamed up with CIMSS researchers to develop several Next-Generation WebApps that enable exploration of temporal, spatial, and spectral resolutions on satellite image interpretation.

Teachers are encouraged to try the new WebApps or join the GOES-R Education Proving Ground.
