Greetings Everyone,

This is my fortieth (40^th) Letter to the Community. Thanks for reading! Each letter has been jampacked with lots of information about what's going on in GLOBE, and this letter is no exception.

My first letter went out in September 2014, shortly after the conclusion of the 2014 GLOBE Learning Expedition (GLE) in India. My initial impulse to stay in touch was a direct result of the feeling of connectedness I experienced in India, where hundreds of students and community members from around the world gathered as strangers and left as friends. The transformative power of a week-long GLE is quite remarkable. If you have attended one, you know what I am talking about. And if not, your chance is here now as we prepare -- more than 3 years later -- for the next GLE, this time in Ireland.

Unlike my letter, which rolls out with regularity, a GLE is a rare event ... like a meteor shower or a solar eclipse ... you need to put it on your calendar, you need to prepare for it, or you'll miss it! This year 400 individuals will manage to sign up for a place. After that, our facility will not be able to hold any more. If you really want to attend the GLE in Ireland, please do not delay. Register!

If you know students who will be attending the GLE, help us find the ones who are passionate about GLOBE. We will have student speakers come on stage intermittently throughout the week to talk about what GLOBE means to them, how GLOBE has impacted their awareness of the environment, and even how GLOBE is affecting the direction of their career aspirations. We are asking students to turn their mobile phones on themselves to video a brief 3-minute sample of what they would want to say at the GLE. When they are done, international students should send their video to their regional offices; and, in the United States, students should send these clips to communications@globe.gov. The Annual Meeting is for Partners, Country Coordinators, and other interested adults. It will take place on 01 July, one day in advance of the GLE.

Essential dates to keep in mind regarding the 2018 Annual Meeting and GLE in Ireland.

01 February - last day for Early Bird registration for the GLE Ireland (register early and save $25 per person)
02 February to 16 April - standard registration
17 April - registration will incur a $75 late fee
Annual Meeting registration fee add-on is $50 USD

Please understand: Registrations will only be accepted for the first 400 participants. When we reach capacity, registration will close.

The call for presentations for the Annual Meeting is currently underway. Please be aware of these dates:

01 March - last day to submit your application to make a presentation at the Annual Meeting. Late applications will not be accepted.
15 March - you will be notified if your application has been accepted.

The International Virtual Science Symposium (IVSS) is currently accepting projects. Click here for all information, including links to recorded webinars that will help your students enter the IVSS.

Student projects are due on 01 March.

We need judges to assist with this! Any interested community member, scientist, GISN member, teacher, or alumni are more than welcome to judge. An informational webinar for judges will be held on 16 March 2018 at 10:00 a.m. MT/06:00 p.m. UTC. More information about that will be sent to all who volunteer.

I know that this is a lot to consider. Hopefully, you'll be able to get involved in one way or another. This is going to be a great year for GLOBE!
