GLOBE in Israel
Working to expand the GLOBE Program in Israel, the Integrated Pedagogical Center and the Environmental Authority of Municipality of Tel Aviv-Jaffa are conducting a series of GLOBE Teacher Training Workshops. Throughout the 1998-99 school year, teachers from 22 new GLOBE schools in Tel Aviv are meeting regularly for mini-training sessions on the GLOBE science protocols and learning activities. Four schools outside of Tel Aviv are also participating in the training sessions. Workshop participants began learning the atmosphere protocols in September 1998. In December, they will meet for at the Ha Yarkon Park for a full day of introductions to the hydrology, soils, and land cover protocols. Workshop organizers are emphasizing how students can use their data to conduct their own research. Emphasis will also be put on using GLOBE data to initiate classroom discussion on global environmental issues.
