Peruvian Institution of Education Javier Perez de Cuellar Installs Weather Station
On 14 October 2013, the Institution of Education (I.E.) Javier Perez de Cuellar Carampoma District in the Province of Huarochirí in Lima, joined the GLOBE Program by installing an instrument shelter that contains the necessary tools for measuring and monitoring atmospheric data. The I.E. Javier Perez de Cuellar, located in Santa Eulalia basin at an elevation of more than 3400 meters, joins 48 other I.E.s that have chosen to implement GLOBE in Peru as a valuable tool for the development of scientific and environmental culture among its students.
The Peru Ministry of Environment and National Coordinator of GLOBE have been promoting GLOBE nationwide as a valuable tool for the development of a scientific culture in children and youth of the country. GLOBE involves students in research about climate change, conservation of biodiversity, water resources management, and other investigative areas.
By participating in The GLOBE Program, students have the opportunity to continuously measure environmental variables of scientific importance. The collected data are inputs for environmental research can address multiple problems and questions. In addition, this program allows students to interact with scientists and varios institutions and universities, who encourage children and young participants to consider higher education from an early age .
GLOBE is thriving in 12 regions of Peru: Apurimac, Ancash, Arequipa, Callao, Cuzco, Ica, Junin, Lima, Madre de Dios, Moquegua, Piurami, San Martin. It will continue to thrive with the help of students and teachers as dedicted as those of I.E. Javier Perez de Cuellar of Carampoma.
