In 2021, The GLOBE Program Malta and Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC), Victoria Gozo, joined forces to promote science and environment education through the GLOBE EDIC STEAM Challenge. A total of seven primary, five state, and two church schools registered for the challenge, which involved 600 students and 50 educators.  >>

In December 2020, students from Gozo Middle School (Victoria, Gozo, Malta) collaborated with students from Turkey, Italy, and Spain – as well as people from the general public – to investigate marine litter with the goal of understanding its causes.  >>

In order to celebrate The GLOBE Program’s 25th Anniversary and Earth Day 2020 (22 April), and World Environment Day (05 June), GLOBE Malta, the U.S. Embassy, and the Malta Embassy in Washington, D.C., teamed up in a joint project that highlighted U.S. and Maltese collaboration efforts designed to better understand the Earth systems and the global environment.  >>

In October 2019, the Gozo College Xewkija Primary School (Gozo, Malta) registered with The GLOBE Program for the first time. From November 2019 through February 2020, the students at the school began their “whole-school” journey with GLOBE.  >>

On 11 February 2020, the GLOBE Country Coordinator of Israel, Ms. Rafaela Babish, along with the GLOBE Deputy Country Coordinator of Malta, Ms. Ramona Mercieca, coordinated a video conference with schools in Malta and Israel to celebrate The GLOBE Program’s 25th Anniversary – and to reach beyond borders in a collaborative learning endeavor.  >>

In early 2019, GLOBE middle school students in Gozo, Malta, focused on studying the effects of trees on urban temperatures in their surrouding communities. "This is our first year participating in The GLOBE Program, and we would like to share our investigation and how we went a step further to involve the wider community and be part of the solution to Climate Change," Ramona Mercieca, a teacher at Gozo College Middle School said.  >>

In February, GLOBE Czech Republic awarded three GLOBE schools with the title "Czech GLOBE Star 2019" for their significant achievements during the year. This yearly acknowledgement of students, and their superior GLOBE-related efforts, began in 2016. Awarded schools receive diplomas, medals, and gifts from members of the Scientific Board of TEREZA Educational Center and the Regional Coordination Office of GLOBE’s Europe and Eurasia Region.  >>

As part of the GLOBE Air Quality Campaign 2019, students from 30 schools across Ireland measured air quality at locations around their schools. Students measured nitrogen dioxide (NO2) – a principal pollutant from car exhaust emissions – during the month of February, and investigated the results and potential impacts on their health and well-being.  >>

Beginning in 2017, under the guidance of their teachers, Marina Pavlić and Irena Sabo, students from the Prirodoslovna i grafička škola, Croatia, began a two-year study that focused on the overall health of ten trees in a large public park in their city, Rijeka. They wanted to determine what role the trees play in air pollution regulation in the urban area.  >>

In July 2018, a group of five Swiss students and their teacher, Andreas Schmid, from Kantonsschule Olten traveled to Killarney, Ireland, for the 2018 GLOBE Learning Expedition (GLE) to present their scientific research projects to hundreds of other international students, teachers, and scientists.  >>
