72 Schools Contribute to October Urban Heat Island IOP
Students in 20 countries recently participated in the Urban Heat Island (UHI) IOP in October 2025. Their dedication and efforts in collecting data using GLOBE surface temperature, air temperature, and cloud observations have helped scientists track temperature around the world to understand how changing local temperatures affect the local community.
Students made and recorded over 1400 observations—a remarkable achievement! A special shout-out goes to the schools leading the way in surface temperature observations:
- Ivano-Frankivsk City Environmental Station, Russia – 131 observations
- Dome International Schools at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – 70 observations
- University Of Toledo, Ohio USA – 70 observations
- Rowad AL-Omaraa Secondary School at Riyadh, Saudi Arabia – 60 observations
Participants are invited to return for the IOP in December! Please encourage classmates, educators, and friends to get involved and continue collecting surface temperature, air temperature, and cloud observations with GLOBE protocols.
