GLOBE Hosts New Data Entry Challenge 11-17 October
GLOBE is hosting a new data entry challenge from 11-17 October 2015!
Data collection is at the heart of The GLOBE Program – and it takes a world to contribute the scientific and environmental measurements that help GLOBE fulfill its vision of a worldwide community of students, teachers, scientists, and citizens working together to better understand, sustain, and improve Earth's environment at local, regional, and global scales.
During the past twenty years, students have submitted nearly 130 million measurements to the GLOBE database and this number continues to grow! The GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO) applauds students for their extraordinary efforts in reporting the data they gather for research and understanding.
The data you collect helps to tell a story of the environmental conditions at a moment in time. Data are as important now as they were on the day you collected them. So, if you have old data sheets that you have not yet entered into the GLOBE database, please join this worldwide effort to enter those data now. If your data collection is up-to-date, then now is the time to collect and enter more data, either online or through the GLOBE data entry mobile app.
Whether you report new data or old, GIO will recognize schools entering the most data during the week of 11-17 October.
During the first Data Entry Challenge, which took place over Earth Week (20-24 April 2015) in celebration of Earth Day and GLOBE's 20th Anniversary, more than 240 schools answered the call to not just count the data, but to make the data count. More than 160,000 measurements were added to the GLOBE database during that week. The measurements included both those collected during the week, and those from years past that were not previously entered into the database.
GIO is calling on you to dig in even deeper and continue to make your data count!
