Earth Day Celebrations in Macedonia


Organizing various GLOBE events to celebrate the Earth Day is already a tradition in Macedonia. The events are attended not only by Macedonian schools but also by student teams from around the world. “We get to meet each other through projects on Ecology or Science as we all want an eco-friendly environment. Also, everybody loves to meet new people, make friends, communicate and nurture the new gained friendships through the social networks by creating videos and exchanging of experiences.”, explains Katerina Nikolovska from Macedonian Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning.

This year's celebration of the Earth's day was truly magnificent as several events were held in two schools.

 

Earth Day at Dimitar Miladinov Elementary School in Skopje

200 Macedonian students and 6 teachers joined activities that aimed to raise environmental awareness. Another 5 student teams from Italy, Spain, România, Turkey and India joined the event online.
Earth Day activities included planting of trees, cleaning up litter, or simply enjoying nature through hiking, gardening or taking a stroll in a local park.

On top of it, two events Plant a Fruit Tree and "Let's meet and know each other in the garden" - United with plants were held on April 20. Two more events called The Art of Recycling and School Festival of Innovations took place on April 23.

      

 

Earth Day at Goce Delcev High School in Valandovo

The Goce Delcev High School in Valandovo organized a competition to motivate students to create artworks with environmental protection topics in various subjects such as Macedonian, French, arts, music and etc. Students who participated in the competition were awarded and special prizes were given to those, who submitted the best work. Prizes were awarded on April 23, in honour of the Earth Day.
