GLOBE Teacher Training Hosted in Paderborn Germany

On 25 April, GLOBE Deutschland organized a GLOBE teacher training covering atmosphere and hydrology protocols. It was attended by eight teachers from different German cities, and by 12 GLOBE students from schools in Paderborn and Unna. The training took place at the world`s largest computer museum, the Heinz-Nixdorf-Forum in Paderborn, Germany.

The day started with a fascinating lecture about different ways of working with satellite images in schools, given by Dr Andreas Rienow, a scientist working with ESA at the Ruhr-Universität in Bochum. After the lecture, participants joined the outdoor training on the Pader River and engaged in an interesting discussion about the benefits and problems of working with the atmosphere protocol and working with the Davis Weather Station.

The afternoon part of the program was dedicated to training in hydrology protocols, and to a discussion on the possibilities of integrating The GLOBE Program into school lessons.

"The teachers and students enjoyed the training very much and it seemed to everyone that the time was very short," said Anna Heyne-Mudrich (the organizer for German GLOBE schools and Environmental Education Organizations), describing the atmosphere portion of the training.
