GPM Webinar: Getting and Analyzing Precipitation Data
Event Time: 11:00 am - 12:30 pm
Location: Webinar
The GPM Mission
NASA's Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Mission is partnering with The GLOBE Program to hold a Student Precipitation Field Campaign to collect data from 1 February through mid-April 2015.
The GPM Mission, which launched on 27 February 2014, examines one important aspect of the water cycle – precipitation. The GLOBE field campaign is an opportunity for students to participate in ground validation for the GPM satellite, investigating the question: "How do ground-based observations compare to satellite rainfall estimates?" Students will also be able to compare their data with that of participating schools around the globe, networks of "official" rain gauges, as well as to long-term climatological data. During the Field Campaign, students and teachers will be able to participate in webinars and read blog posts by NASA scientists and engineers.
The GPM Webinar
This webinar, "Getting and Analyzing Precipitation Data," will take place on Wednesday, 18 March 2015. This webinar is for teachers, and covers how to use the GLOBE Visualization System, how to get satellite data from My NASA Data and Giovanni, and how to find other sources for ground data, as well as tips for helping students do analyses.
This webinar will be hosted by the GPM Education and Communication Team in collaboration with the GLOBE Implementation Office. Two equivalent webinars will take place on Wednesday, March 18th at 12:00 pm and 7:00 pm EST ((UTC-5). For additional information on the webinar, and to register, click here.
