Become a GLOBE-Trained Teacher: GLOBE and Eco-Schools USA Offer 8-Week Online Course from 18 Janaury-15 March
Registration is open for the upcoming 8-week online training course, “GLOBE Training for Eco-Schools: Using Earth Systems Science in your Schoolyard Habitat,” which runs from 18 January through 15 March. The training is presented by The GLOBE Program and Eco-Schools USA.
This is an online course for formal and informal educators who are seeking to integrate citizen science and field investigations into the Eco-Schools USA program by becoming a GLOBE trained teacher. The training will take place on two e-learning platforms, NWF’s Wildlife University and GLOBE’s Protocol e-Training.
The course is designed for educators looking to engage their students in Green STEM, with learning opportunities that are rigorous, yet fun, and that take students out of the classroom and into the natural world. A certified Schoolyard Habitat has many benefits, not only to wildlife, but applications in all core subject areas. A schoolyard habitat is also a great place to engage students in field investigations where they can practice the science skills and develop deeper understanding about Earth’s systems and her processes.
Before receiving your certificate of completion for eight hours of professional learning, participants will have the opportunity to request free equipment for their students to use in the field. With the receipt of free equipment comes the expectation that educators will use the equipment with students, and that educators and students will enter data and contribute to GLOBE’s worldwide database of data sets. (This database can be used to create visualizations, look at change over time, comparisons and collaborations with other countries.) This is an opportunity to be engaged in student-led sustainability action on a global level, spanning kindergarten through 12th grade.
There will be four 8-week sessions offered in 2017.
