GLOBE Welcomes New Partnering Country: Georgia

In September 2019, NASA and the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Georgia signed an agreement to implement The GLOBE Program in Georgia. The Caucasus Environmental NGO (non-governmental organization) will be serving as the Country Coordinator.

Georgia is a country in the Caucasus region of Eurasia, and is located at the crossroads of Western Asia and Eastern Europe. It is bounded to the west by the Black Sea, to the north by Russia, to the south by Turkey and Armenia, and to the southeast by Azerbaijan.

“I am pleased to welcome Georgia into the family of GLOBE countries,” GLOBE Implementation Office (GIO) Director Dr. Tony Murphy said, “and to know that this partnership agreement was signed in Tiblisi, site of the first UNESCO intergovernmental conference on environmental education in October 1977. How fitting that The GLOBE Program takes root in Tibilisi, Georgia where environmental education first began!”

Georgia is the 122nd country to participate in The GLOBE Program. Welcome!
