Still Time to Register for Tomorrow’s (22 March) GLOBE El Niño Field Campaign Webinar: “Max/Min Air Temperature and Precipitation”
Why are temperature and precipitation data important variables to study globally as we strive to better understand our home planet? Find out! Register now to attend the next GLOBE El Niño Field Campaign Webinar: “Max/Min Air Temperature and Precipitation” This webinar will begin at 8:00 p.m. ET (12 p.m. UTC).
During this hour-long webinar, a NASA scientist will discuss current research efforts that use NASA satellites to collect temperature and precipitation data. Participants will learn how to locate some of these freely available data sets, and will also get a quick review of the max/min temperature and precipitation protocols and best practices for using these in classroom settings from a GLOBE teacher who is currently using these with students. Speakers for this webinar are: Dr. Dalia Kirschbaum, Mladen Matvijev, and Dorian Janney.
As part of the GLOBE El Niño Field Campaign, which began on Tuesday, 01 March 2016, there will be a suite of six GLOBE measurement protocols (including the SMAP protocol) that will serve as ways to identify environmental changes affected by El Niño. There will also be regular webinars to discuss the mechanics of the campaign, give updates on data collection, and explore science with experts. Register for all of the webinars here!

- Thursday, March 24, 2016 – Blog Post: “Scientist Comparing Research Data to GLOBE Student Collected Data #1” with next webinar shareable. This featured blog will connect teachers and students with NASA scientists studying oceanography, atmospheric sciences, and Earth Sciences. The scientists will show how there are data comparisons between their research data and the GLOBE data. GISS scientists will be selected to participate. Connect with all of the campaign blogs here.
- Monday, March 28, 2016 – GLOBE El Niño STARS recognizes two schools that have taken exceptional measurements during the El Niño campaign thus far. This will be done via a blog. Connect with all of the campaign blogs here.
Throughout the campaign, updates about data collection and analysis, as well as guest blogs from scientists about how they study El Niño and teachers doing data collection with their students will be posted. Keep checking back here!
