GLOBE Program (Philippines) Announced its EduShare Project in the Midst of the Covid Pandemic
On August 6, 2020 (Manila). The GLOBE Program (Philippines) announced its latest project “EduShare” on national TV/ Radio broadcast. EduShare is a moodle-based Learning Management Systems (LMS) which was built to help GLOBE Teachers deliver blended or distance learning pedagogies in the midst of the CoViD-19 pandemic. The current health crisis came so suddenly and unexpectedly that no-one was prepared for its devastating and radical effects on peoples’ lives, especially on public school systems in developing nations like the Philippines, which lacks not only on physical infrastructures but also on soft-systems and technical skills needed by teachers to effectively conduct lessons via the internet.
The EduShare is fully scalable and customizable to the needs of schools and teachers, and is being offered to GLOBE Schools and Teachers in the Philippines – Free of Charge. From July – August 2020, the GLOBE Program (Philippines) has trained over 300 potential LMS administrators and teachers on the use of EduShare and Online teaching techniques. This number is expected to double in the next couple of weeks. Two (2) public schools have expressed interest in adopting the EduShare-LMS as their preferred distance learning platform for school year 2020-2021 – Batasan National High School (Quezon City), the country’s largest high school in terms of enrolment with 16,000 students; and Nabua National High School in Camarines Sur, Bicol.
In the long run, the GLOBE Program (Philippines) plans to convert GLOBE’s Protocols in modular form for easy adoption and integration by teachers into their science curriculum, and use EduShare as its delivery platform. Integration with other open-learning platforms is also being eyed for this project to give schools and teachers more options and tools for online class delivery.
Ms. Joan Bilasano Callope, GLOBE Program Master Trainer & Assistant Country Coordinator, and Quezon City’s Most Outstanding Teacher for 2019, announced the EduShare Project and discussed her visions about science education under a “new normal” environment, live on “Radyo Bandido TV – Turo Guro Program.”
As of date, EduShare has over 140 teacher-users, preparing their subjects for the opening classes on August 24, 2020. With lots of hard work, prayers and support from teachers and school administrators, the GLOBE Program (Philippines) look forward to the success of this worthwhile project.
