Infinity Science Center Uses GLOBE to Engage Teachers and Students in Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences

The INFINITY Science Center (ISC) GLOBE Partnership recently wrapped up their NOAA B-WET project entitled ISC Watershed Education & Environmental Impact Program. The INFINITY Science Center received funding to facilitate a teacher and student multi-disciplinary, first-hand, community environmental stewardship project centered around data collection and research about watersheds, scientific data collection, research procedures using the scientific method, and presentation to decision makers for community impact.

This project targeted 15 teachers and 400 middle school and high school students who participated in hands-on investigative learning through Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs) around their local watershed, environmental health and how it related to population health, environmental stewardship, and environmental advocacy. Teachers and students utilized GLOBE protocols and tools for data collection. Participants were required to submit a student research project to the GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium

The NOAA Bay Watershed Education and Training (B-WET) program is an environmental education program that promotes locally relevant, authentic experiential STEM learning for K-12 audiences to promote Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences (MWEEs). For more information regarding this project, contact Donna Torres at dtorres at visitinfinity dot com.
