Today (15 September) The GLOBE Program Presents Science Summit at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA77)
The GLOBE Program has been chosen to present at the Science Summit at the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA77) on Thursday, 15 September, at 10:00 a.m. EDT. To enjoy the variety of GLOBE presentations, please register (free tickets are available online).
The role and contribution of science to attaining the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) will be the central theme of the Summit. The objective is to develop and launch science collaborations to demonstrate global science mechanisms and activities to support the attainment of the UN SDGs, Agenda 2030, and Local2030. The meeting will also prepare input for the United Nations Summit of the Future, which will take place during UNGA78 beginning on 12 September 2023.
The Summit, which will take place from 13-30 September, will examine what enabling policy, regulatory, and financial environments are needed to implement and sustain the science mechanisms required to support genuinely global scientific collaborations across continents, nations and themes. The Summit will bring together thought leaders, scientists, technologists, innovators, policymakers, decision-makers, regulators, financiers, philanthropists, journalists and editors, and community leaders to increase health science and citizen collaborations across a broad spectrum of themes, including nutrition, agriculture, and the environment.
The GLOBE Program Presentation
During The GLOBE Program’s presentation, participants will learn about GLOBE, its alignment with the UN SDGs, and possible strategies that help in their implementation. As an international science and education program, GLOBE is dedicated to supplying the future Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) professionals with the scientific knowledge necessary to tackle Earth's biggest challenges. The GLOBE Program has several resources aligned with the SDGs, and many GLOBE members implement the program with this alignment in mind.
During the session, panelists will present the story of GLOBE in their countries, its implementation, and how the program is helping to meet the country’s SDGs. The panelists, one each from the six GLOBE regions (Africa, Asia and Pacific, Europe and Eurasia, Latin America and Caribbean, Near East and North Africa, and North America), will cite specific case studies to illustrate this work and any results from these efforts.
