NASA’s GPM Mission Offers Vast Array of Precipitation Education Resources
Nov 03, 2015
In February 2014, NASA and the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) launched the Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) Core Observatory. GPM’s advanced instruments are designed to improve upon today’s precipitation-measuring capabilities, and the mission is designed to bring all the data from the partner satellites into a unified global dataset.
GPM uses multiple satellites orbiting Earth to collect rain, snow, and other precipitation data worldwide every three hours. NASA is offering a unique website, presented by the GPM mission, that provides students and educators with resources to learn about Earth’s water cycle, weather and climate, and the technology and societal applications of studying them.
