Since October 1998, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has organized this national and international event to help the public gain a better understanding and appreciation for the Earth Sciences and to encourage stewardship of the Earth. This year's Earth Science Week will be held from October 11-17 and will celebrate the theme "Visualizing Earth Systems."  >>

GLOBE Trainers at Langley Research Center provided a workshop on Elementary GLOBE. The training session was developed specifically for NASA education specialists in the Office of Education and Science Directorate. The training discussed how the Elementary GLOBE storybooks model science practices and are aligned with NGSS and Virginia’s state standards. Participants learned about each of the six storybooks and worked through various complimentary hands-on activities that align with the content areas: Earth as a System, Soil, Water, Seasons, Clouds, and Aerosols. Participants practiced multiple science and literacy strategies including constructing a Word Wall for vocabulary development, using 5-Finger Retell for reading comprehension, and journaling. The 8 participants are eager to incorporate Elementary GLOBE into NASA Educator Professional Development and STEM Engagement. One participant attended on behalf of a local informal science center.  >>

In support of the Soild Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) satellite mission, NASA has initiated a 7-month-long soil moisture measurement campaign, from 1 October 2015 through 30 April 2016, and invites GLOBE schools to participate.  >>

The National Marine Sanctuary Foundation (NMSF) is accepting pre-proposals for its 2015 Hollings Grants program. Pre-proposals are due 22 October 2015.  >>

GLOBE students – it's time for you to show the world what you are learning through your experiential, hands-on journey through GLOBE's science practices and protocols. The GLOBE Program is pleased to announce the 2016 GLOBE International Virtual Science Fair for students around the world.  >>

The Committee on World Food Security (CFS) is hosting a special event on 15 October (9:30 – 11:30 a.m.) in Rome, Italy: "Developing the Knowledge, Skills, and Talent of Youth." The objective of the event is the exchange of ideas among a diverse range of stakeholders to enhance capacity, knowledge, and skills development of youth in the agriculture sector, with the ultimate aim of contributing to food security and nutrition.  >>
