A new study using NASA's Global Precipitation Measuremen t (GPM) mission data entitled " Water vapor and soil moisture can predict afternoon rainfall " was recently published in the Geophysical Research Letters journal. Special observations of airplanes and contrails are being collected by a select few as part of a pilot project the GLOBE Clouds team has been working on for a year. The project asks students to use an app that tracks aircrafts, then note if the airplane is or is not creating a contrail. The airplane tracker app suggested notes the height of the airplanes, giving the opportunity to note the altitude of the contrails if present.

STANDARD RESEARCH REPORT
There was a lot of interactive discussions between students, teachers, scientists, and NASA education personnel during the December 3 and December 4 Open Forums for the Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign.
Here are the questions that were discussed as potential student research projects related to Trees. Students are invited to use any of these questions, or their own, in developing student research projects. As a reminder, these projects can be submitted to the 2020 GLOBE International Virtual Science Symposium due by 10 March 2020!
