We are kicking off the Urban Heat Island Effect campaign today with a heat wave in the eastern United States. Many record temperatures were broken today with highs reaching 32 to 35 C. 53 sites around the world entered data already today, October 1, 2019. You can see that most of the observations were in places of the world where it has been pretty warm. The coolest observation came from Alaska.

In the GLOBE Clouds protocol and GLOBE Observer app, you can report if your sky is “overcast” or “obscured”. But what’s the difference? Below are some tips to help! All the photographs featured were collected by observers just like you - Thank you!

Each month I create and submit a report detailing the GLOBE happenings shared with me from all over the United States and my activities. These reports usually include GLOBE Partnership updates along with special sections on the Student Research Symposia, communications and projects. As I look back over the year, I thought that perhaps the community would like to know what has been happening too. The GLOBE Mission Mosquito campaign was delighted to have 23 IVSS projects submitted that used the Mosquito Habitat Mapper tool in their research. These projects came from students in elementary school through graduate students in college and were submitted from 15 different countries. You can view an interactive map of these projects here .
