The GLOBE Mosquito Habitat Photo Challenge kicked off Sunday, July 25 and continues through August 25, 2021. This challenge combines Mosquito Habitat Mapper and Land Cover (two GLOBE Observer app tools) to document areas with and without mosquito breeding habitats using only photos. At the start of the month, i was invited by SAASTA, a body in South Africa that promotes science in schools to train teachers in 4 districts in 4 days in Mpumalanga. It took me 5hrs of drive from Pretoria to my first venue of training where 40 teachers from different schools welcomed us. For pupils studying to become Chemistry technicians we decided to connect learning of clouds with History. These pupils were asked to find old postcards of our hometown, determine the current location shown in the postcard and establish the type of a cloud. Eleven chemistry technicians pupils were using postcards from the past and got a chance to see their hometown from the begining of the 20th century (postcards dated from 1902. to 1935.) while practising determination of the clouds. Our school „Prirodoslovno – grafička” in Zadar joined GLOBE program in November 2020. Our first task was retrieving data about clouds. The challenge was to train pupils in recognising different types of clouds given that this is not covered by their school curriculum. The American SpaceX company has stacked the biggest rocket ever constructed. The vehicle's two segments - an upper-stage called Starship and a booster called Super Heavy - were connected together at the firm's Starbase R&D facility in Boca Chica, Texas. Hi! My name is Om, and I'm a high school junior. This summer, I participated in the SEES Internship Program a partnership with UT Austin and NASA, and worked with the Mosquito Mapper cohort. Many protocol-trained GLOBE members may have noticed a recent update to the GLOBE Program’s GLOBE Observer app. The change brings a new look and a new way to submit GLOBE atmospheric measurements. If you were used to entering meteorological conditions in the Cloud Tool, you’ll see this option is no longer there. In a move that throws cold water into the dreams of some billionaire space explorers, the United States has toughened its definition of the word "astronaut." The new rules of the FAA (the agency that regulates civil aviation in the United States) say that astronauts must be part of the crew and contribute to the safety of space flights. The -new- GLOBE Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Working Group was formed at the beginning of this year and today marked their first presentation at a GLOBE Annual Meeting!
