SD GLOBE Winter E News

Note: The post below was originally sent out to South Dakota GLOBE trained educators as the Winter E-News

Hello SD GLOBE Educator!

I’m touching base briefly with all the GLOBE goodness happening in our state.

Data and Stipends

Thank you to those who have entered data for the last quarter of 2017. Those who have reported data are Julie Olson, Vikki Hasche, Jane Amiotte, Deb Springman, Robert Stahl, Jonathan Stahl, Patty Martin.

If you entered data and are not listed above, please let me know.

If you did not get a chance to enter data, you have another opportunity. Collect and report data by March 31 in order to earn a stipend..

You can also earn a one time stipend for setting up a site during the 1st quarter. Set up a site for the protocol of your choice and send me a screenshot of the site in order to be added to the 1st quarter stipend list.

The SD GLOBE Program offers these stipends as part of our Space Grant outreach in recognition of the self directed professional development that happens when you collect and report data in the GLOBE ecosystem.

New this year: We are in the bittersweet position of having to put an eligibility cap on the number of  stipends. You may receive up to four data reporting stipends, one site set up stipend, and a stipend for any GLOBE workshop you attend where it is offered. (Note: not all GLOBE workshops offer workshops.) We are starting the clock on this eligibility cap this year. Also, check with your employer to ensure that you are eligible to receive them per your contract.

Upcoming Professional Development

I will be leading a GLOBE workshop in Sioux Falls April 13-14 at the University of Sioux Falls. Both grad and renewal credit will be offered. Please share this opportunity with your colleagues.

Also, looking ahead, we will be doing a field based professional development in June 19-22 (tentative)

GLOBE Supplies Minigrants

As a GLOBE trained educator in South Dakota, you are eligible to receive a minigrant of up to $750 for supplies to do GLOBE protocols. When you apply for a minigrant, you agree to enter data into the website within a year of receiving the supplies.

To apply for a minigrant, please complete this form.

Student Research Symposium

The Northwest Student Research Symposium dates are June 1-2 in Bozeman, Montana. If you would like to bring a team (or teams) of students to present their research using GLOBE protocols, please apply for funding by Feb 1. More information is here. NW Student Research Symposium
