The Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign will be hosting the webinar: “The State of Trees – January 2023: Setting a Baseline and a Look Back at the November 2022 International Forest Conference in Slovenia” on Tuesday, 17 January, at 10:30 a.m. ET (03:30 p.m. UTC/04:30 p.m. CET).

The webinar, which will be the 53rd webinar for the Trees Around the GLOBE Student Research Campaign, will be the next step in getting students comfortable with the data accessible for student research. By establishing a baseline for student research, the webinar will be able to focus on how students locate and decide what trees to observe and include in their research. This concept follows on December’s presentation by Teacher, Deanna Danke and her students, who showcased this exact method.

The featured presentation will be by Zoran Petrov, GLOBE Slovenia Country Coordinator. Petrov will recap the November 2022 International Forest Conference held in Slovenia, and will discuss how he has made GLOBE Slovenia a GLOBE powerhouse in just the two years that Slovenia has been an official GLOBE country. Using all this information, the webinar will delve into the idea looking at change over time, especially in those countries that are relatively new to GLOBE and that do not have many observations in the GLOBE database for their country. Peder Nelson will highlight the online tools that can assist with this, including the Global Land Analysis and Discovery (GLAD) Global Tree Height Map.
