ONLINE GLOBE COURSES IN SPANISH FOR ARGENTINA, PERU AND URUGUAY - GLOBE STAR

Two years ago (2017) Uruguay was developing the first online GLOBE course in the area of Atmosphere, using the platform Educantel (from the National Telecommunications Agency) and coordinated by Andrea Ventoso, the national coordinator.

Now, in March 2019, Argentina and Peru (represented by the Country coordinators, Marta Kingsland and José Martín Cárdenas) have showed interest in the online modules and have asked Uruguay to join the courses to train their teachers in their own countries.

In the case of Argentina, the course chosen was Hydrosphere, and 59 teachers were registered in this module. They are teachers with previous experience of GLOBE and others that are knowing the program for the first time. 12 teachers finished the whole course with the presentation of the project. Marta Kingsland and María Marta Daneri, both Master Trainers, are the facilitators of the course.

Peru, on the other hand, has chosen Atmosphere to start with the modules and the Master Trainer José Martín Cárdenas is sharing the facilitation of the course with Andrea Ventoso, Master Trainer of Uruguay. They had 71 participants registered in the course, all of them teachers of Secondary education. 28 of them finished the course and presented a project or a class session for their schools.

Uruguay had its third course now, regarding the Atmosphere investigation area, and invited José Martín Cárdenas to be the second facilitator of the online course. 73 teachers of Biology, Geography and Chemistry as well as teachers of Primary School registered in this course and have started it. The course finished the 23rd. April, at the same time as the Argentinian course, so we want to celebrate this in occasion of the Earth Day. It is a wonderful reason as we are convinced the promotion of the collaboration links in the region are one of the GLOBE premises and contribute to strengthen the relationships among Coordinators, trainers and teachers and promote the region as a whole.

Finally, between October and November we developed the new designed module of Biosphere, for which we proposed Claudia Caro, Master Trainer of this area in Peru, to mentor this course and then carry out the field practice in the Prado Park in Montevideo. 25 Biology teachers and School teachers finished this module.

Next plans include Ecuador as the next country to be integrated to the online courses in Spanish, We welcome others who want to join!!
