Urban Heat Islands and the Role of University of Toledo: Toledo's Parking Day Celebration on 15th of September
The University of Toledo participated in this event by providing a dedicated booth equipped with professional-grade thermometers, cameras, and an assortment of surface samples, including concrete, black and white tiles, sands, woods, foams, artificial turf and variety of surface covers . These resources were used to illustrate the differences between various surfaces, allowing attendees to personally measure temperature variations, facilitating a comprehensive comprehension of the topic.  >>

GLOBE Mission EARTH partners with the NASA SEES Program for third year in a row
GLOBE Mission Earth (GME) participated in the SciAct funded STEM Enhancement in Earth and Space Sciences(SEES) Project at the University of Texas again this summer with the University of Toledo (GME-UT) hosting two groups of students participating in the NASA SEES Summer Program. This is the third consecutive year GME-UT has worked with SEES students. Dr. Kevin Czajkowski and Sara Mierzwiak guided both groups in their work. The students studying the urban heat island effect were led by Olawale Oluwafemi (Femi) and assisted by Tanzia Ahmed and those studying air quality were led by Dr. Yitong Jiang assisted by Dr. Farrokh Namjooyan.  >>

Boston University GME Summer 2023 Teacher workshop
The Boston University GLOBE Mission EARTH team ran a summer professional development workshop with their Providence Public School District teachers throughout the month of July 2023. A cohort of twelve teachers, representing grades 2 - 8 across the Spaziano Elementary, Nathan Bishop Middle, and Gilbert Stuart High Schools, participated in GLOBE protocols and worked on curriculum development to incorporate GLOBE and NASA assets into their classrooms.  >>

Dr. David Padgett Receives 2020 YES Medal at Historic 2023 GLOBE Annual Meeting
Dr. David Padgett Receives 2020 YES Medal at Historic 2023 GLOBE Annual Meeting. The 2023 GLOBE Annual Meeting held in the USA, Colorado, from July 17th to 20th marked a significant moment for the GLOBE Program and environmental education. It was the program's first in-person annual meeting since 2019, reaffirming its commitment to environmental understanding and education. ​​​​​​​Dr. David A. Padgett, an Associate Professor of Geography, received the 2020 YES Medal during the meeting. His groundbreaking work in applying geoscience to address environmental justice issues has made him a pioneering figure in the field. He has been an instrumental GLOBE Partner and Trainer at Tennessee State University since 2001, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing.  >>

2023 GLOBE Mission EARTH SATELLITES Student Conference Fifty-three students (grades 2-12) from Ohio and Michigan from thirteen schools presented over 30 projects at the SATELLITES Student Conference at The University of Toledo on May 10, 2023.  >>

BU Mechanical Engineering students advances AREN AquaROVER design
Working over the 2022-23 academic year, a group of Mechanical Engineering seniors at Boston University collaborated with AREN and GLOBE Mission EARTH to design sail propulsion for the AquaROVER vehicle and document its build process. Mayukh Bandyopadhyay, Arius Eich, Aaron Wonjin Lee, and Michael Lu worked with Andy Henry and Geoff Bland (AREN) and Caleb Farny (GLOBE Mission EARTH; Boston University) ​​​​​​​to design and implement a sail propulsion system and wind sensor for the vehicle, and to write an assembly manual for the vehicle.  >>

BU Mechanical Engineering students advances AREN TerraROVER design
Working over the 2022-23 academic year, a group of Mechanical Engineering seniors at Boston University collaborated with AREN and GLOBE Mission EARTH to improve the TerraROVER design and document its build process. Darin Sumetanon, Erin Dougherty, Kiran Gomatam, Justin Le, and Darin Sumetanon worked with Andy Henry and Geoff Bland (AREN) and Caleb Farny (GLOBE Mission EARTH; Boston University) ​​​​​​​to improve the electrical wiring harness and vehicle electro-mechanical safety considerations, and to write an assembly manual for the vehicle.  >>

2023 GLOBE Midwest Student Research Symposium
The University of Wisconsin-Madison hosted the 2023 GLOBE (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) Midwest Student Research Symposium (SRS) from April 21-23, 2023 in Madison, WI. Forty-seven students from Grade 5-12 from Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin presented their research projects to twelve judges.  >>
