January 2024 Tech Update
We hope you’ve noticed some changes on the GLOBE Homepage! We have reduced the size of the features on top and made room for links to lead you to some of the most used areas of the site. These links are customized for you (educators, citizen scientists, guests, students, etc.), so to get the most out of them, make sure you are logged in.
We recently delivered a new Learning Activities repository which is being tested by members of the community. Once approved, all trained users will be able to upload their learning activities to the GLOBE website. In addition to searching through official GLOBE learning activities, you will soon be able to see other’s learning activities and search, comment and upload new activities. We hope this will become a robust area of the site where we can all share activities we’ve developed or found useful.
In addition to GIO’s work revising the eTraining materials (Pedosphere is complete), we are in the process of modifying the eTraining portion of the site to make it easier to understand the requirements to become an eTrained GLOBE educator.
We have also just added a new capability to The GLOBE Program's app, GLOBE Observer. If you are doing the Land Cover protocol, you can now add “Feature Photos” to your measurements. If there’s something in the area of your land cover measurement that is especially scientifically interesting or relevant, you can take up to four additional photos and add a caption to describe what the feature is.
Did you know that GLOBE Observer and the four Citizen Science protocols have been translated into 16 languages? Most recently we added Swahili and Latvian! Thanks to those community members who translated the content for the app. In order to expand the availability to other countries, GIO is always seeking members to translate this and other materials. Please let us know if you are interested and available to assist with this.
