Emily Sousa and Helena Buurman, University of Alaska Fairbanks, will be sharing their experiences developing a geocaching-like activity where students at the 2023 Northwest Student Research Symposium navigated using GPS units and collected GLOBE snowpack data. They will also share a storymap they created and ideas about designing a GLOBECaching activity.  >>

U.S. Weekly Watercooler: Using GLOBE Observer Landcover App to observe seasonal changes in freshwater systems and save lives (7:00 pm ET)
The GLOBE Observer Landcover app can be a tool for monitoring environmental changes that relate to safety. "Fresh Eyes on Ice" team member Christi Buffington and GLOBE Observer Coordinator Holli Kohl present how GLOBE Observer Landcover App tools are used to observe changes to freshwater systems and conduct inquiry investigations that relate to safety on the water, especially when rivers, lakes and streams freeze. Learn how to contribute river and lake photos. We will include a discussion on how to ground GLOBE investigations in community needs and priorities.  >>

In this Watercooler John Ristvey, UCAR, will present on GLOBE Weather Pathways. The goal of "GLOBE Weather Pathways for Students with Disabilities" a new project funded by NSF GeoPaths, is to develop and test an approach to provide middle school educators with the experiences, tools and abilities to adapt geoscience curricular resources to meet the needs of students with disabilities and articulate career pathways and opportunities in STEM for them.  >>
