Whether it’s growing food and the plants that produce oxygen, storing water or cycling nutrients, soil is a provider of important ecosystem services. We depend on soil just as much as we depend on air and water. We have a vested interest in ensuring that soil is well managed and healthy. The USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service (NRCS) defines healthy soils as “the continued capacity … to function as a vital living ecosystem that sustains plants, animals and humans.”  >>

The Xcite Learning/Toledo Zoo/BGSU partnership with funding from the Northwest Ohio STEM Center of Excellence and Project Impact at Bowling Green State University held a GLOBE in the Prairie Student Research Symposium on May 23, 2023. A total of 86 students in grades 3 to 7 and representing three school districts presented their research on the benefits of school prairies.  >>

The NASA Goddard GLOBE Goes to Camp Project supports its first GLOBE Intensive Observation Period (IOP) this summer during the months of June and July with campers, their communities, and other members of the GLOBE community.  >>

The New Hampshire GLOBE Partnership at the Leitzel Center at the University of New Hampshire has been working with students in grades 4 and 5 from the Maple Street School in Rochester, N.H., to develop a Water Tent, a project similar to the successful Earth Around Us Soil Tent program.  >>

The GLOBE Partners at Elkhorn Slough National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) hosted the 2023 Student Research Symposium (SRS) on 12 and 13 May under the leadership of Peggy Foletta. The Elkhorn Slough NERR welcomed 35 students from eight schools throughout California.  >>

Sixty-eight students from seven schools from Connecticut, Louisiana, and Texas visited the University of Texas at Tyler on 19 and 20 May for the Southwest, Southeast, and Northeast & Mid-Atlantic Student Research Symposium. Attending from seven schools, the students presented 21 projects highlighting their research using GLOBE protocols and data.  >>

More than 200 students from around the United States shared their research at four GLOBE U.S. Regional Student Research Symposia (SRS) in April and May 2023.  >>

On 24 April 2023, 65 students from 21 schools from Alaska, Montana and Washington gathered together at the Wedgewood Hotel and Conference Center in Fairbanks, Alaska, for the 2023 Northwest Regional GLOBE Student Research Symposium.  >>
