How Hot is Your School? "Urban Heat Island Effect/Surface Temperature" March IOP

According to climate scientists worldwide, 2023 was the warmest year on record. Along with the Earth warming up, the urban heat island effect is making cities even hotter.
GLOBE students can study the urban heat island during the month of March through the Urban Heat Island Intensive Observation Period (IOP). Take cloud, surface temperature and air temperature observations. This year, we are focusing on school yards. Take observations around your school. We are really focusing in on playgrounds, parking lots and artificial turf fields.
